In 2016 we looked in amazement at the piles of hard disks arriving at the Netherlands Film Festival. These were the ones that made it—some others were lost in remote post offices, never to be found again. And among those that arrived, there were broken drives. This caused frustration for both filmmakers and film festivals. Surely there was a better way? A more sustainable and efficient solution?

The Netherlands Film Festival, the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, and the International Film Festival Rotterdam thought so too. In September 2016, we combined our expertise and after years of hard work, Filmfetch 1.0 was born. No more juggling hard disks. Instead, a digital catalogue allows filmmakers to upload their films, receive an immediate technical check, and enable film festivals to access verified film files directly. Goodbye hard disks. Hello, sustainable convenience!

In the meantime, many years have passed and the landscape of film logistics has changed significantly. We have not been idle either, and after numerous updated and improved versions, we have reached Filmfetch 2.0. Over these years, Filmfetch has evolved from a logistics solution into a comprehensive media management system.
